I don't remember how or why it started, these t-shirts. I suppose I was just feeling Disney dorky one day and stumbled upon the "you design it" portion of the Disney Shopping website, and thought it might be fun to all have matching t-shirts. We all had matching blue Mickeys that first time....
Since then, it's morphed into a full blown event. We've gone from all having the same shirts with the same characters, to choosing a movie or genre and each having different characters. Last December, we were all Lion King characters. Over the summer at Disneyland, we were different Mickey Mouse Clubhouse characters. And for our upcoming trip, we will all be Finding Nemo characters.
As much as Jay taunts me for doing this, he got right into it this year, as we pored over the Finding Nemo website to determine who should be what. Everyone wanted to be Nemo or Dory, and since not everyone could be Nemo or Dory, we stepped in and chose characters for everyone based on personality. I think this might be our best t-shirt yet. So here they are, the cast of characters...
Jay is Bruce. Bruce is, as he so aptly described it, "all smiles until something triggers a frenzy." Totally Jay.
I am Marlin. I know I'm an over-protective worrier, but really....it was a slightly insulting chorus of agreement that I should be this neurotic fish!
Lauren is Nemo. Because that scene where Marlin is screaming for Nemo to come back and Nemo is determinedly swimming away anyway is oh so familiar....
Jon Owen is Gurgle. Gurgle is the hyper-clean, germaphobic fish that lives in the tank. Which couldn't be any more Jon Owen.
Hudson is Bubbles. When the treasure chest in the tank gives off Bubbles, he says, "Bubbles!" then quickly slams the lid of the chest shut and says, "My Bubbles!" This couldn't be a more perfect Hudson, because everything is MINE these days.
Papa is Gil. When we read that Gil's only desire in life is to escape the tank, we thought of Papa always wanting to escape to the golf course....
Grandma is Dori. The well-intentioned but sometimes confused fish got a universal vote for Grandma!
Uncle Kris is Crush. Laid back, go with the flow Uncle Kris seemed most Crush-like. Although I've never heard him say "Dude!".....
Aunt Keri is Peach. We actually had a hard time coming up with a good Aunt Keri match, but Peach, with her "find a happy place" mantra, seemed the most like our beloved Aunt Keri.
Riley is Sheldon. Sheldon is little and adorable and H20 intolerant, which reminded us all of Riley and her spontaneous vomiting battle.
Emily is Pearl. We loved that Sheldon and Pearl are best buds, since the girls are so tight, and when we read that Pearl has one tentacle that is shorter than the others but completely unnoticeable, we knew that this had to be Emily.
And so there they are! We are all so excited for our upcoming trip, ordering the t-shirts makes it feel imminent. I love it.

Ok, I give up!!!
Once upon a time, I fell in love with scrapbooking. I bought all the tools and albums and papers, envisioning countless hours cutting and pasting our memories into beautiful, meaningful books. But unfortunately, I just don't have the time to do it on a regular basis. So I adjusted my expectations, and determined that I would find the time to at least scrapbook our Disney trips, since the first album I ever completed was our first trip to Disney.
Sadly, this isn't happening either. Until Hudson gets bigger, I just can't haul the supplies out and expect them to stay put. I am at least 4 Disney trips behind. Heaven knows if I even remember enough about them now to make the books special. Sigh. I give up.
So I am once again shamelessly copying Keri, who has a Disney trip blog -- she is just printing blog books and capturing the memories that way. Genius, really.
So as we prepare for our upcoming February trip, I will blog. Genius.
